Step Three, Fiber Up!

21 Day Soda Pop Challenge

“Eat more fiber!” You’ve probably heard this phrase before, but do you know why fiber is so good for your health? Dietary fiber, found primarily in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. But foods containing fiber can provide other health benefits as well, such as helping to maintain a healthy weight and lowering your risk of diabetes and heart disease.

For the purpose of our cleanse, your fiber intake must at least be 21-25 grams! The purpose of any cleanse is to remove toxins from your system which cause illness. So, if you have been cleansing to lose weight, right now, I challenge you to rethink your health.  We will later explore difference between fasting and cleansing.

We began Step One of 21 Day Pop Challenge; I only asked that you increase your water intake.  Water is the most important tool of cleansing.  In essence, you have been flushing out toxins from pop, coffee, tea, and all other non-hydrating beverages by simply drinking water in equal parts, and beginning your day with water.

Step Two of the 21 Day Pop Challenge has been adding all natural herbs to improve liver and kidney functions; along with your colon and lymphatic’s.  The purpose is to make your body healthier!  I chose the Dieter’s Cleanse and the Clean Start as our options because they are general cleanses which are basic, yet effective for healthy functions. Cleansing is about two things: one minimizing your exposure to toxins; and two, improving the function of organs the help to eliminate waste and toxins in our bodies.  This was the reason for the assessment; everyone is different and I need to gauge where you are body wise to suggest the best process to improve your health.

fiber02Step Three is fiber.  This is the second most important tool for cleansing.  Dietary fiber binds toxins to help with healthy elimination and stops toxins from being absorbed into the bloodstream. You should not experience diarrhea during a cleanse as that is harmful to the body; and neither should you feel nauseated or light headed.  These are symptoms of not enough fiber and toxins floating free within your system causing you to feel ill.  The minimum fiber intake is essential to proper cleansing.  Fiber also reduces the risk of colon cancer, stabilizes blood sugar levels, reduced cholesterol, and prevents hemorrhoids.

Now let me explain why I chose this order. Fiber and water are the two most important things your body needs to stay “cleaned out” on a regular basis.  Not consuming adequate water with your daily fiber intake can have an adverse reaction in your system.  Without proper water consumption, fiber can actually bind you; meaning without proper hydration it can actually cause constipation.  Cleansing the colon does not require a stimulative laxative, only proper water and fiber!  Lack of fiber and lack of water is what causes constipation and a buildup of unhealthy toxins in your system.

The 21 Day Pop Challenge is a 3-6 month program.  The title was to encourage you to get the first 21 days going in a new direction that is how long it takes to build a new habit; we have many small habits to build toward a new lifestyle. The pop challenge was to encourage you to drink more water and flush waste products from your system.  This challenge does not end in 21 days and I walk away and leave you with “results”; it is to change the way you look and feel.  I am thanking you now for your trust and commitment to promoting healthy living from within.
